OONI: iThena integration of OONI Probe boosts censorship measurement coverage worldwide
(Message 1409)
Posted 27 Dec 2021 by Aurum Post: All but 3 of the OONI Probes I launched today started at 100% and after an hour are still reporting 100% progress. The 3 are reporting normal progress. Can this be fixed? When DLing some have application names that include i686 and some i86_64. They have the same application number and the difference is not listed on the applications page. I thought it might be the class of CPU but they seem random. What's the difference? While DLing your WUs are reported as Download Error but run after completing DL. I don't recall seeing that quirk before. Is something set wrong? How many times a year do you award badges? Is automating it on your To-Do List? |

Bandwidth glutton - CNode vs PERF
(Message 1100)
Posted 22 Mar 2021 by Aurum Post: I was watching with Glasswire and couldn't tell for sure. I think Cnode can run continuously, submit and get a new WU right away. Perf has a blast of activity, finishes quickly and the server at least 5 minutes before sending the next WU. |

Dedicated DNS servers available (as part of optimization)
(Message 1053)
Posted 11 Feb 2021 by Aurum Post: My ISP Charter Spectrum has a poor performing DNS server so I long ago switched to using Google's 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. I'd like to understand why use a different more distant DNS server. The biggest problem from my perspective is that ISPs throttle the upload speed to a fifth of the download speed just so they can charge more if they can get you to buy a faster service. |

Why not do twice as much work?
(Message 1052)
Posted 11 Feb 2021 by Aurum Post: You can install the client on multiple computers.I'm asking if you learn more by my running iThena on more than one computer on the same local network. I proved that running iThena on all my computers grinds my internet connection to a halt. My kids are in covid distant learning and they were convinced the internet was dead. |

Why not do twice as much work?
(Message 1049)
Posted 10 Feb 2021 by Aurum Post: I just joined iThena and I've been reading many of the posts. I get the impression one should only run one iThena project per local network, but that might've been one of the older projects such as DIMES or another. Should I install iThena on each computer in my local network or just one??? TIA |
