Posted 16 May 2020 by Conan Post: I keep getting EXIT-CHILD-FAILED, with run times from over 2 hours to 9 seconds, all fail. I have the redistributables up to 2019 installed but all work units are failing. Is this another Windows XP issue. The test work units did not work either for me on this computer. Conan EDIT: Forget the 2 hours then fail, they all now fail in a few seconds. I have allowed access in my virus scanner but still no go. |

Posted 15 May 2020 by Conan Post: Quorum of 1, so no resend queue. But I have noticed a severe drop off in clearance rate with the PERF work units, suspect everyone getting never ending tasks and don't know it so not aborting the faulty work units. It would be hard to abort faulty work on heaps of machines, I suppose which is possibly why they are getting cleared out. I have not had a single work unit succeed all day, had to abort all of them, just did another two (on Windows). Conan |

Posted 15 May 2020 by Conan Post: Thanks Rysiu, That is good news. I have had no Windows output during the last 12 hours or so due to every PERF WU now running non stop and not ending. My Linux machine is going fine but not giving much return (but you know about that). Awaiting the new work units. Conan |

Posted 12 May 2020 by Conan Post: I believe that it is somewhere between 1 and 2 hours normally. Some can go up to 3 hours and still finish and validate. I personally abort ones that go past 2 1/5 hours as possible failures. Definitely the ones I catch at 3 to10+ hours get killed straight away. The new applications that Rysiu is trying to get working for both Windows and Linux has a possible fix to this issue. (Though I have only seen the endless running work units on Windows and not on Linux.) Conan |

Posted 11 May 2020 by Conan Post: Thanks Coleslaw, No I have tried to follow a link I found on youtube a while back, not sure if it is the same one or not. It was by a BOINC user (Toby?? someone possibly, I forget). He showed all the steps he uses to create 100 to 1000 boinc instances and how to add a project to those instances. I decided that I was not that worried about trying it, although I could give GoofyxGrid or iThena a go with a couple of instances and see how it runs. maybe one day, not too worried about it at the moment. In the case of iThena it would only be worthwhile on a Windows computer and even then I would have to have many, many instances for it to be generating useful credit numbers. On Linux I could create 1,000 instances and still not get to 1 point after a many days running it. Conan |

Posted 10 May 2020 by Conan Post: Check out the front page news section on WUProp project to understand the implications of Goofyxgrid and it's effect on WUProp as seen by the Admin of that project. In a nutshell, if you run more Boinc Instances on your computer than the number of cores that machine has and you have a copy of WUProp in each Boinc Instance collecting data and hours, then it will be deemed a form of cheating (from a WUProp point of view) and those hours from those hosts will not be counted. If you have as many or less Boinc Instances than the number of cores per machine then it should be no trouble. It has to do with the fact as to what WUProp is actually trying to do, record memory usage, CPU types, Operating systems, etc for each project that runs and then collating that information so people can use it to see what projects are running, what is required to run them or if they can actually run it. Big nutshell but that is the gist of it. It is not a problem for me as I could not work out how to run more than one Bonic Instance on a single machine anyway. Conan |

Maintenance and new version of iThena PERF application - Linux platform - Continuation
(Message 495)
Posted 6 May 2020 by Conan Post: Well I am one of those Linux users, I may not of asked yet, simply because the Admin knows about the issue and he doesn't need another chiming in. Rysiu has said he is developing another application for Linux and we await for this new App. However it would of been nice if the current Linux application had an increase in credits awarded. If that is not really possible due to the application, then as the Work Units are counted a Back Payment can be done for the work already done. Rysiu is a busy man, we know and respect that. Getting the new applications going is a higher priority at the moment. Us Linux users are still waiting patiently for something to happen along the lines of helping the Linux users get parity with Windows users. Just thinking out loud. Thanks Conan |

(Message 488)
Posted 4 May 2020 by Conan Post: Tomorrow I will add new versions of PERF application. I don't think he is trying to compete, he is asking for parity between Linux and Windows. 6 hours work on Linux should be close to equal to 6 hours work on Windows. So if Windows gets 12 points for those 6 hours then so too should Linux get 12 points. This is not what is happening and is the basis of the complaint, I believe. Conan |

crédits Gnu-linux vs Windows
(Message 456)
Posted 26 Apr 2020 by Conan Post: I just connected a Linux based computer to the project. Disappointed with the credit allocation to say the least, and now I know what others have been talking about. It will take me 1,000,000 (1 Million) work units to get to 3.33 points on that host. On Windows I will have 2,000,000 points for the same effort. So it will take me 600,600 Work Units to equal just 1 Windows WU. Does not add up very well to me. Anyway when you have time can you take a look please. (I know you are working on a new Linux Application so maybe that will fix the discrepancy) Thanks Conan |

Posted 22 Apr 2020 by Conan Post: @Conan: Maybe adding ntdll.dll directly to the application directory will help? G'Day Rysiu No that did not change anything, I tried two different and newer versions of ntdll.dll but I still get the same error message that there is a problem with the entry point EtwGetTraceFlags and the library ntdll.dll. Nothing really stood out as helpful doing a quick look on Google. I did try re-registering ntdll.dll and then found out that you can't as it is not a function that is supported by ntdll.dll, so that is why it failed to register, worth a try. I have not added the newer downloaded versions of ntdll.dll to my /windows/system32/ folder as I don't think my installed version of ntdll.dll is corrupt and I don't want the newer versions to bugger up my Windows install, so I have only placed the newer files in the iThena folder I created for the test. Posted 21 Apr 2020 by Conan Post: I tried again with the new R1 download file. The error message changed to "api-ms-win-core-crt-l1-1-0.dll was not found" So I went out and downloaded a version of it. Re-ran and then got the error "api-ms-win-core-crt-l2-1-0.dll was not found" Located that and downloaded that as well Tried again and then got the error message that "The procedure entry point EtwGetTraceFlags could not be located in the dynamic library ntdll.dll" I have ntdll.dll installed in /windows/system32/ folder so it should be OK, unless a newer version is required. It is now 1.35 AM here in Australia so I am off to bed and I will try again later today. Conan |

(Message 409)
Posted 12 Apr 2020 by Conan Post: I had one computer do this and downloaded 3 tasks, which all finished at the same time then only one task downloaded. However I am showing 3 tasks running on my account at the moment, I have a single task on each of my computers, so it appears that I have a ghost WU. I also had the message that I had a resent WU, which processed fine and only one WU downloaded to replace it once it uploaded. This all happened around 2 to 3 hours ago. Conan |
