21) Message boards : Number crunching : No work available for PERF tasks (Message 988)

Post:
CNODE tasks are Linux only.

They also take about 30 minutes to run, for the same 2 credits that the 1-5 minute Windows PERF tasks get. That's why most people stick with PERF and don't really bother with the CNODE stuff...

As discussed in this thread, the server has been out of disk space for a week now and is unable to accept any task results.

How long have they been connected? It's not uncommon for clients to not get work for hours (or even days) sometimes due to overloaded resources on the server. And when there's an actual server crash/problem like right now with the full hard drive, the server isn't properly responding to requests.

Yep. Getting the same errors again now.

Turns out these errors are being generated when the download fails and/or the files are corrupted. Seems to be related to the recent and frequent loss of communication with the project server.

In the last few days I've been getting a lot of errors on my Windows 10 laptop that say, "The code execution cannot proceed because cygwin1.dll was not found". Also getting the same error with cygcrypto-1.0.0.dll and cyggcc_s-1.dll. I'm not getting any actual failed tasks so it looks like they are still running and completing normally, but it's very annoying having to click OK on hundreds of error messages when I return home from work after Ithena has been running and building up these messages all day...

Google says to reinstall Cygwin to fix the problem, but of course I don't actually have it installed so either Ithena hasn't downloaded files that it needs, or there is something wrong with some of the current batch of tasks.

Any suggestion how to fix this?

Windows 10 tasks are limited and frequently don't have any work available, but I believe that the Windows 10 app will work on the Surface Pro. You'll just have to be patient and hope you get lucky and grab some Windows tasks when they are available. (Linux tasks are almost always available.)

My Linux machines almost always have a task running. It's rare to see them NOT have one active.

None of my Windows machines have had any work for several months...

I came here to ask the same question. Getting proper credits on Linux clients is a very nice change, but I'm curious to know when the change will be happening. Just to have something to look forward to. :)

I am seeing a lot of these in Windows as well on the 1.02 application. I've aborted several that ran for 2+ days before I noticed and killed them, and most other tasks have been going 12+ hours before I get to them and stop them. Not much point letting the project run if the tasks won't complete and report properly.

you could award every wu returned with 5cred (fixed credit), problem solved!

Agreed!

That would be almost FIFTY THOUSAND times more credit per work unit than we are currently receiving. And it would still be very low compared to most projects..

Post:
Well, the project is giving (and showing) credit now. But in a way I think this is actually worse since getting .00000333 credits per work unit instead of straight zero shows that this is intentional instead of a bug/oversight. When it will take months or more of processing time to earn a single credit point, and the top user on the server has a TOTAL of 0.07224000 credits, there really isn't much incentive to stick around...

I have a computer running this project (just one for testing so far before I add more) and it has returned more than 80 work units in the last few days. All were completed and validated successfully, but had very short run times on a fairly low powered computer, and NONE were granted any credits at all, so this still seems to be a problem...
