Referring to the news item I would like to start a discussion on the credits points requirements for certain badge. The topic on the forum announcing badge: https://root.ithena.net/usr/forum_thread.php?id=83 Preliminary proposal concerning the category "total credit" for individual applications: ====================================== ====================================== iThena CNode Badge: Badge TotalC 2Power ============================== Bronze 8192 13 Silver 16384 14 Gold 32768 15 Amethyst 65536 16 Ruby 131072 17 Turquoise 262144 18 Jade 524288 19 Sapphire 1048576 20 Emerald 2097152 21 Diamond 4194304 22 ====================================== ====================================== iThena PERF Badge: Badge TotalC 2Power ====================================== Bronze 32768 15 Silver 65536 16 Gold 131072 17 Amethyst 262144 18 Ruby 524288 19 Turquoise 1048576 20 Jade 2097152 21 Sapphire 4194304 22 Emerald 8388608 23 Diamond 16777216 24 The credits thresholds may seem quite high. However, this is only my suggestion. These applications will also have long support. PS. At the moment I have small problems with storage, but the PERF application will also be normally available. Just my 2 cents (or whatever small denomination currency you'd like :) ) At first blush, the levels for the CNode badges seem high, based on how long i've been crunching them combined with the credit/WU. Might want to start it down one power of 2 (i.e. - 2^12) Perf badge levels seem reasonable (if we could just get some of those elusive WUs :) (and yes, i read that you're having issues, so it's just meant to be a good natured dig) |

Just my 2 cents (or whatever small denomination currency you'd like :) ) Looking at your account it looks like both of us would have the Bronze badge for both kinds of tasks and be a just a bit short of Silver. |

The badges are for "Total Credits", this is fine and very welcome. I was wondering about the many thousands of work units that were done by all the Linux users and we only got 0.0000333 points per work unit. Doing 100,000 work units didn't even get you 1 full credit. Window users get a faster application and have had 2 point work units since the start, Linux did not, and did not get 2 point work units till a long time after the Windows app had been running. So I was wondering about that. Perhaps it was all down to development? Linux misses out, as Windows apps take 4 minutes and Linux takes 40 minutes. Just throwing that out there as I will be taking a long time to get to the first badges of either application but congratulations to all badge winners. Thanks for your hard work Rysiu it is much appreciated. Conan |

Linux misses out, as Windows ... No, on the contrary, Linux wins ;-) 1.We got a beta badge for low-profit tasks. I agree that this situation remained too long, much longer than the distribution of the first badges 2. PERF tasks (not to be identified with Windows) are much faster than the CNode, but their badge level is 4 times higher 3. For Linux, unlike Windows, both applications are available (when they are alive). And now only Linux hosts continue to earn badges |

Linux misses out, as Windows ... Thanks Sergey for a different point of view. Congratulations on getting your Beta badge, we all did not receive a Beta badge, I did not get one. Although I joined in Sept 2019 (1 day after you in fact), I didn't start running the project till early this year so missed out on the Beta badge even though I ran a lot of the low credit work units. So no badge for me then, I will just be patient and chug away, I will get a badge eventually. We continue onwards Thanks Conan |

@Conan: Are you planning to completely stop supporting the project? I think I will probably reduce the requirements for badges... :) These are only proposals :) |

Rysiu, check cnode app without running apps we won't be able to earn a badge even with low requirements ;-) |

I think I will probably reduce the requirements for badges... :) These are only proposals :) Rysiu, You don't have to worry I will continue to support the project. I was only pointing out what I thought was an anomaly, which it seems is not out of place. Your levels are probably fine and most people will be able to get them, it will just take me a little while, however is that not what getting a badge is all about, it is about earning the badge so that is what I must do, earn it. Have a good day The fun continues Conan |

Since no one gave another suggestion so far I will give this a new input here, as I believe Rysiu's may be too hard to reach for "normal" users (like me ;-) ): From all other NCI-projects I have data of (and they are a few anyway) I did a comparison to that here and calculated a bit. usually the 2 credits for a WU seem quite reasonable since two other projects have a similar per-hour-amount like this here, but they have no (credit) badges. So far two other NCI-projects have credit badges, but their per-hour amount is higher, around 8 and 10. For both the first credit badge is starting at 10.000. With my two computers, I reached these badges after around 25, 26 days. Here at iThena, I would currently need at least around 85 days (nonstop) for CNode - but since it is mostly run under Linux and most of the time I cannot run both my hosts with the VirtualBox, it would take quite longer. Too long from my point of view. Unfortunately I cannot speak about PERF. Actually I don't know the credit amount given from it anymore (there're no tasks in the last time and are deleted very quickly anyway it seems), but the amount to get bronze seems way too high if I look at it and would at least need four times longer than CNode (if the credits are the same) - I could die earlier to say it a bit sarcastic. ;-) So, my suggestion for the CNode badges would rather look like this: Bronze 2,000 Silver 5,000 Gold 10,000 Amethyst 20,000 Ruby 50,000 Turquoise 100,000 Jade 200,000 Sapphire 500,000 Emerald 1,000,000 Diamond 2,000,000 Life is Science, and Science rules. In fact, the entrance threshold for badges is quite high. It seems to me that for CNode badges you have to reduce requirements. Probably following the advice better thresholds are: Badge TotalC 2Power ============================== Bronze 2048 11 Silver 4096 12 Gold 8192 13 Amethyst 16384 14 Ruby 32768 15 Turquoise 65536 16 Jade 131072 17 Sapphire 262144 18 Emerald 524288 19 Diamond 1048576 20 |

Badge TotalC 2Power ============================== Diamond 1048576 20 top user - Dingo - has 2,5M so you need two more badges PERF top user PDW - 19M - 1 more |

Badge TotalC 2Power ============================== Diamond 1048576 20 PDW needs another badge when he has passed 33,554,432 iThena PERF Badge: Badge TotalC 2Power ====================================== Bronze 32768 15 Silver 65536 16 Gold 131072 17 Amethyst 262144 18 Ruby 524288 19 Turquoise 1048576 20 Jade 2097152 21 Sapphire 4194304 22 Emerald 8388608 23 Diamond 16777216 24 |

you don't have to add a new badge for the 1st top user diamond and congratulations to the champion record holder :o) but in the second case - an excess of 2 times, one full level a compromise is possible - increase everything by 1 level Bronze 4096 12 Diamond 2097152 21 PS by the way, the work has already been restored, but the badges are still at the discussion stage |

Well, as long as there are not at least 100 users with more than 2 M credits (CNode) I don't see the need to add/create new badges, if you would ask me. Sergey Kovalchuk wrote: but in the second case - an excess of 2 times, one full level That would be no big difference from my list then, only the time to get to the next badge would differ... Meanwhile I got some (new) PERFs also and could figure out what to get from this, Since this is so much more than CNode, my list suggestion for this would be nothing less than a multiple from the first one, 20 times to be exact (and with a little adjustment between): Bronze 50,000 Silver 100,000 Gold 200,000 Amethyst 500,000 Ruby 1,000,000 Turquoise 2,000,000 Jade 5,000,000 Sapphire 10,000,000 Emerald 20,000,000 Diamond 50,000,000 Otherwise, since you guys seem to be fixed to numbers in multiples of 2 you can figure that out yourself. ;-) Edit: This list would also apply to the totals then, since both are combined of course!
