Is this project ever going to work properly?

Maybe when pigs and donkeys fly? /sarcasm
Doubt that it will anytime soon with the absent project administrator(s) that doesn't reply to my PM's.

Exactly. I've offered multiple times to help with additional hardware even, and still crickets

LOCKING USELESS TOPIC. ITS OBVIOUS THAT THE PROJECT IS RUNNING ON "AUTOPILOT" AND ADMINISTRATOR(S) DO NOT BOTHER TO READ OR REPLY TO FORUM TOPICS.

If you can not manage your project properly, I will simply detach from it. These files are tiny. Process them or shut down. Find space for them or shut down.

I don't care about the credits. I don't care about the statistics. Wasting work on the other hand is irresponsible -- anathema.

Not that it will do any good posting...
2 more days have passed with same results - disk full.

Is there anything we can do as a community to help solve the disk space issue? It appears that users are frustrated with and dedicated to this project, in equal parts.

Project website returned and several hours later by no surprise "Servers Disk Full" message.

Wondering if they had run out of allocation of bandwidth?

Administrators probably are not reading the forums and highly doubt they are keeping an eye on the Server status.

I see the project has returned from the dead after inhaling too much ether. It's only been 33 days!

Let's take some bets on how long before the disk full message reappears... My guess is less than 24 hours.

Edit .... LOL
Well the free space didn't last longer than the time it took to post my message--- 5 minutes at the most.

For the first time in several months, I have received some work.
But straightaway, the upload is stuck.

Unfortunately, as we have seen since the project started is management doesn't care about anything.

Only thing you can do *if you want credit* is to manually abort the tasks.

It works occasionally, but they don't accept donations for more disk space, crazy.

I leave the project connected, it does my computers no harm to wait.

Try emailing here with donations, he mentioned they wanted gifts of storage a few years back and to email here: lswierczewski@cybercomplex.net

The solution is simple. When you are a project, and you don't have space to receive results, you don't send out new jobs; you shut down the scheduler. You rate-limit yourself. This can be automated. Easily. Yes, eventually you do have to offload your results somewhere or retain them, but the idea is you move the bottleneck away from the front end.

Of course, if you don't care about the results at all, you're not going to bother doing either of those things. That's why the solution ultimately doesn't matter; donating more storage to the project doesn't matter. Someone there would have to care enough to use it.

This is not a lack of hardware. This is not a lack of personnel. This is not even a lack of competence; it hardly requires any. This is a lack of interest. The automation I described takes the effort of setting up one watchdog script, a task that can be delegated to a grad student or an intern or frankly even a very bad vibes-based programming copilot AI, and then staying out of its way. The only reason it hasn't been done is the same reason there hasn't been a single administrative update since 2023. It does not make sense for the project administrators to spend the resources maintaining this project, its servers, its website, its electrical and Internet utilities, and its personnel, if none of them are put to use; someone is being very disrespectful of those resources in addition to the resources offered by volunteers by failing to show interest through attendance. No one at the project appears to have done or published any analysis of volunteer results in years. As Cyber-Complex Foundation is a not-for-profit organization, that calls their governance into question. I would be reluctant to donate anything to an empty pit in the ground.

There are probably very sensible reasons the people involved in this project have other things to do right now. I am not a stranger to not-for-profit work. Communication, however, typically does not become categorically impossible. A word. A heartbeat. A sign of life. Any signal of actual need could easily justify donations in support. Regrettably, I do not see that.

For my part, I have other things to manage and I use metrics to monitor my BOINC installations. If I have jobs perpetually waiting to upload, that BOINC client metric never hits zero and I have to check that host and make sure it isn't some other more general problem; if I don't, this specific problem can mask a more serious one such that suddenly none of my jobs are being uploaded. That's the practical reason I'm not going to bother requesting more jobs from this project.

I also find it unlikely, if they are having disk space issues at the front end, that the project will be able to fully utilize all the data that have been piling up during the years the administrators haven't been paying attention. I'm not interested in shoveling information into a black hole.

Everyone else who wants to send a noticeable signal, or is perhaps simply disinclined to do more work than the project administrators they are working for, should probably just detach their devices and do the same. The amount of effort each person has given to this thread alone outweighs the project's entire internal activity.
