Why are the points/credits so low for this project? It's not even worth running the project since it's credit weight isn't even remotely close to any other projects. My stats don't even show up on DC-Stats until I get to 1 which, takes a lot of time.

That thread wasn't next to this one nor was it at the top when I made this topic.

Someone bumped the other thread back on Jan 12th and I made this topic on Jan 10th.

I am perfectly aware of the problems.

I understand that users are waiting and impatient (very much).

However, some technical / logistical problems have arisen.

It takes time here.

Thank you for your time. Thanks for participating in the project and participating in the forum (community).

The problems exist but I slowly solve them.

I'm sorry about the problems.
I remember everything all the time ;)

Please also post a message in the forum New (nci) project: iThena for Willy @BOINCstats to allow the showing of your stats on his site. Willy will NOT show the stats until you give him permission.

I sent Willy another email and sent a post on the forum (22.03.2020) asking him to unlock the statistics (Willy had previously set the statistics as "hidden" - at least to my knowledge).

I would like Willy to unlock the statistics on BOINCStats.

What's the point in asking for credit to be displayed in statistical websites... ??

I have 2 linux hosts running ithena for months now (almost 5000 hours of running, WUProp project is giving a very accurate statistic about it) and I still don't even have 1 f*****g credit, this is ridiculous.

WUProp is a good example of nci projet giving a small yet reasonable amount of credit : I get average 150 credits per day with 3 hosts.

It seems that users having windows host and your windows app do receive such a small (yet reasonable) credit, but not the linux users... and linux was your first app and all of us early helpers have 0 as a reward.

Wonderful.

Why bother?
As long as you treat Linux users with such utter negligence and refuse to give them proper credits, any such stats are just a weird distortion of the project.

Credits are the *only* reward that a boinc project is giving to the participants for the money they are giving to this project (= machine cost + electricity, or VPS rent) to help it (and the people who run it) gather calculation results. Whatever the project and the research field may be.

This only helps the participants to show the rest of the world that they are helping this project. This is why there are many boinc statistical websites.

On a nci project, normally behaved users only expect a small amount of credit to show this, small.

On regular projects, credits might be excessive or insufficient, this is a never ending discussion in the boinc community and it will last forever :)

But here it is not the case, because here if you have helped the project since the very beginning so the developer / admin / scientist (even if the whole project is supported by a single person) can debug a stabilize his application, you get 0 credit. ZERO.

So basically the project is telling you something like "you are helping me and I don't give a f**k about it, go to hell" just because he cannot grant even 5 credits per tasks, so the user can simply show he is helping that project. EVEN if the project guy does not really want to say this and is a nice person, this is what the user feels like.

So maybe it is a hard task to maintain alone a boinc project, maybe it is difficult to find time and money to run it on one's spare time (after the family, the work, etc). Maybe it is impossible : in that case don't build a boinc project to pretend doing any scientific or technological research / investigation, don't ask volunteers to come to your project and give you their money.

And don't be surprise if some of these users overreact.

Oh and by the way, how can it be that there are some users on this project having several hundred thousands credits already ???

Do they have millions of machines ? :)

Windows + hundreds (thousands) of clients = most likely? I'm sure it won't be long before your shining example project starts overreacting like it did with GoofyxGrid....

Real clients ? or "simulated" / VM clients ?

Sorry I'm not sure to understand what you are referring to ? can you please develop ?

Multi-clients setups. VM's probably as well but Multi-clients would most likely be the bulk. A good SSD can probably support 10 VM's each running 1,000 tasks a piece. Many people did this on GoofyxGrid. However, this project has a much greater issue to watch for. It is really hard on a users upload within the network. So, a user needs to keep an eye on the total network congestion as he/she could load up too many instances or bring down their entire network. You can fit 8-10 VM's on a small 120GB SSD all running Windows 10.

Check out the front page news section on WUProp project to understand the implications of Goofyxgrid and it's effect on WUProp as seen by the Admin of that project.

In a nutshell, if you run more Boinc Instances on your computer than the number of cores that machine has and you have a copy of WUProp in each Boinc Instance collecting data and hours, then it will be deemed a form of cheating (from a WUProp point of view) and those hours from those hosts will not be counted.
If you have as many or less Boinc Instances than the number of cores per machine then it should be no trouble.

It has to do with the fact as to what WUProp is actually trying to do, record memory usage, CPU types, Operating systems, etc for each project that runs and then collating that information so people can use it to see what projects are running, what is required to run them or if they can actually run it.

Big nutshell but that is the gist of it.

It is not a problem for me as I could not work out how to run more than one Bonic Instance on a single machine anyway.

Not sure if it is still an issue, but users were also finding WUProp cutting their legit CPU runtimes by the number of instances as well for a while. I have no idea if this was ever fixed as I only run one WUProp in the core BOINC instances on each host and I quit really paying attention to the inaccurate run times listed in the app list. But the way he went about it and his team responded was just childish and short sited. My opinion (and some others) of course.

Conan, have you tried following this? - https://youtu.be/Dhwo3ehDcV4
I had a step by step written guide in my team's forums years ago but back in January the owner updated the forum software and gimped our guides section. Until he fixes it, I cannot link to it. Since that thread was made, others have used it quite a lot.

Thanks Coleslaw,
No I have tried to follow a link I found on youtube a while back, not sure if it is the same one or not.
It was by a BOINC user (Toby?? someone possibly, I forget).
He showed all the steps he uses to create 100 to 1000 boinc instances and how to add a project to those instances.

I decided that I was not that worried about trying it, although I could give GoofyxGrid or iThena a go with a couple of instances and see how it runs. maybe one day, not too worried about it at the moment.

In the case of iThena it would only be worthwhile on a Windows computer and even then I would have to have many, many instances for it to be generating useful credit numbers.
On Linux I could create 1,000 instances and still not get to 1 point after a many days running it.

You can always make a Windows Virtualmachine specifically for those 2 projects. 200 instances would cover all 4 Goofy apps plus the 1 iThena application for a total of 1000 work units in progress. Or you could run 250 instances just for Goofy or 1,000 instance just for iThena. You don't even have to activate Windows.

Maybe I am misinterpreting something, so I'll ask.

If I am running two instances of boinc on goofy, as an example. Why should both of my instances not count towards my run hours? They are registered on the goofy site as a separate PC AND they are separate tasks. Where is the issue?
