I run Unbound as a recursive resolver on my home network, so I am querying the root and authoritative servers directly. Works great.

The problem was related to a very long period of indispossibility of the main system administrator.

Unfortunately, I was not able to solve the problem remotely.

Unfortunately, at that point there was no redundancy...

Currently, the problem has been removed...

Sorry...

Very long absence - professional trip (no access to the Internet).

Glad to hear all is well with everyone. When project admins go silent for long periods, I always get very worried something bad has happened to them. Thanks for the update!

I've developed a propotype for a new form.

In this form you will be able to set the preferences of the (own) host.

Preferences currently per host.
You will be able to set individual options for each host.
Then we will be thinking about automation and "grouping" options.

There is currently no action/submit added.

It only shows the template of the prototype form.
The form will of course be optional.

The form will be visible from host list options:

Form:

https://root.ithena.net/usr/hosts/

The first version...

Any comments?

Looks good.

It does appear to be missing Cable Broadband in the Connection Type field, however. You should probably add that, as it is a popular connection method, at least here in the USA.

In fact, I can introduce shorter tasks.
But I think 2 hours would be acceptable?

the task can be of any duration if at least once an hour there is a checkpoint.
it’s better if the real result is saved: processed one server from the list - save the checkpoint

In relation to questions:

1) Do you know how the BOINC server currently handles the selection of applications as standard? Does it work correctly on the server/project side? In the past (quite a long time ago) there were problems with it... The choice of application preferences is probably an open problem here.

2) The network load I think will be regulated over time. I can implement the option for the user to define how "difficult" (very big network load? or small?) tasks will be downloaded by a specific client.

I read somewhere, sort of like a "local scheduler": 10 levels of difficulty, matching the CPU model (parsing the line), etc.
IMHO, too difficult for such a simple task.

another idea is an endless task, once an hour packing the result and sending it to the server with a trickle message (search keyword)
an example is climate prediction or QCN (sensor and continuous)
build a distributed network of measuring agents following the example of a network of seismic sensors :o)
PS then crediting is not for the task (it is endless, you can just kill it), but for each sending of the result (each trickle) - an idea from the DHEP project

It's not BOINC related, but that is precisely what the RIPE Atlas project is doing. I have had one of their probes active for almost six years.

Oh, I certainly understand I am pushing things to the limit. I have no issues with data usage when running the normal one instance per machine. I am just taking advantage of having no data cap while I am able.

Now if I could just keep my cable modem happy while running a bunch of these on my network. I'm having to scale back quite a bit.

Same here. I tried running 750 instances, which completely saturated my 40Mbps upload limit and was using something like 15GB of data per hour. I have scaled back to 200-300 instances now and usage is still quite high, but much better at about 5GB per hour. However, even at this rate, I will still have to scale back much further after 6/30, when Comcast reinstates their 1TB per month data cap. Need to stay closer to 1GB per hour after that date.

It's a problem on the project side.
Firewall cuts too much.

@Coleslaw: I haven't done the verification yet.
@RFGuy_KCCO: Can you send me your public IP address to priv?

Done! Thank you!

I’m the teammate on Comcast who also cannot connect to this project anymore. I’ll PM my IP to the admin, as well.

The systems are online.
Unfortunately, the migration procedure ended in failure.
I will have to rethink the matter and carry out the procedure again.
I have an idea, but it takes time...

I'm sorry about the long offline time...

No problem. Thank you for the excellent communications. I really appreciate this from a project.
