Only thing I noticed was a name change, from iThena to iThena.Measurements

On November 30, 2021, we changed the entries in the DNS zone for the root.ithena.net subdomain.

Previously root.ithena.net subdomain pointed to IPv4 address: 80.204.27.80.

Currently root.ithena.net subdomain points to IPv4 address: 146.59.48.180.

This change may be noticed on some systems with a longer delay.

November 30 or October 30, we have yet to get to November 30.

If October 30, then I have not noticed any problems accessing the site.

Fix.

The new OONI Probe (2D series) tasks will have 16 task credits.
New CNode tasks will have 4 credits per task.

Old tasks with old credits are still in the queue.

Just wondering how many of the 2 point CNODE tasks were in the queue? The reason being I have yet to see a 4 point CNODE task yet.

Conan

According to the Application page the CNODE app has not been updated since Sep 2019 when it was introduced.

That would be why there is no 4 point CNODE work units, seems to have been forgotten again, a bit like the credit bonuses that were going to be given out earlier this year and again in the middle of the year which did not happen.

Anyway, on wards and upwards (very slowly)

Don't worry about it, mine do the same on a new install I did a couple of days ago.
After it runs at 100% for a period of time it goes back to the progress bar when it gets to 20% done (that is it stays at an indicated 100% till it reaches 20% work done inside the work unit then works normally).

So nothing to worry about, the OONI work units take about 6 hours to run no matter what the progress bar says.
BOINC has a bit of trouble with how progress is measured.

All work units give 2 credits, both 0D and 1D.

8 credits is not much of an improvement over 2 for 6 hours of work.

Windows PERF WUs take 3 minutes or less so at 2 credit each gives about 40 credits an hour

Linux PERF WUs take at least 4 minutes and at 2 credit each gives about 30 credits an hour

Linux CNODE take 30 minutes for 2 credits so give 4 credits an hour

OOMI Probe take around 6 odd hours for 2 credits so give 0.33 credits an hour.

To bring CNODE and OONI Probe up to 30 credits an hour to match Linux PERF

:- will require CNODE to get 15-16 credits per WU

and OONI Probe needs 180 credits per WU.

We are a long way off that at 2 credits per WU.

That memory requirement was supposed to have been changed to 256MB as stated by Rysiu on the 30/9/2021
See This post

Perhaps all older work units with the larger memory requirements are still being flushed through the system.
My Linux host only uses 680K when running, no idea how much is needed to start the application though.

Ordinarily I would say no, you don't have to anything to get the work units.

My computer started to download them as soon as they became available without me changing any settings.

I don't know if it makes any difference but I have "Run Test Applications" set in my preferences, as well as "accept work from other applications if no work available", might help.

The other thing to try is to hit "Update" on your boinc manager even with CNODE and PERF running to see if it will then download OONI Probe.

On my Linux host I get the following (as do most others)

In 4 minutes I get 2 points for a PERF work unit

In 30 minutes I get 2 points for a CNODE work unit

In 71 hours 23 minutes I got 2 points for a OONI v1.02 work unit

In 6 hours 19 minutes I got 2 points for a OONI v1.05 work unit

If the scaling was the same then I should get

In 4 minutes 2 points for PERF work unit

In 30 minutes 15 points for a CNODE work unit

In 6 hours 19 minutes (6.33 approx) 189.90 (190.0) points for a OONI v1.05 work unit

The times are for my computer and will vary for others.
If the scaling was in effect then I would of gotten 2,145 points for the 71 hour work unit I returned.

Probably can't be done but if it can that would be great (we all know the discrepancy that Linux users have compared to Windows users concerning credit for same PERF work units but longer Linux run times) (my point of view, I admit).

Anyway a good thing that has come about with the new OONI Probe work units is that I don't have to keep hitting "update" all the time try and get a PERF work unit (if any are available) to download to my Linux machine.

More often than not all 3 types (PERF, CNODE, OONI Probe) will download together most of the time, just have to hit the update button every now and then as PERF has long breaks before downloading.

So well done and thank you for that.

My OONI Probe WU was at about 89% after 12 or so hours with 1 1/2 hours to go.
When I later checked it was now at 14+hours, 14% and 101 hours to go.
How does it work?

The OONI Probe work unit down loaded automatically to run next to my CNODE work unit, which is great as I don't have to hit update all the time to get it.
Why does PERF not work this way and download and run next to my CNODE work unit without me constantly hitting "Update" to try and get a PERF work unit?

Thanks
Conan

This work unit (version 1.02), reached 24 hours with 37 minutes to go and I think 80 or 90%.
When I checked later it had gotten to 34 hours with 10 hours to go and 76% done.
Now it is at 37 hours with 694 hours to go and just 5% done.

Certainly is jumping around a lot.

Conan

Completed successfully in 71 hours 23 minutes, this is for a version 1.02. however the 2 credits I received for it is really not what I expected for the effort involved.

Since the downtime the new work units are doing what they were doing back in March.
They are running for hours. I have a CNODE that is at 22% after 55 minutes.
Also Windows PERF is running for 30 minutes or more, I have one at 99.996% after 27 minutes.
I managed to get a rare PERF for Linux to download and it is also running as long as the Windows PERF work units do.

You said you would think about doing a credit bonus to the users that had work units running for many hours back in March.
That did not happen, so can we get a double bonus this time?

Perhaps it would be a good idea to think about some credit compensation....

All CNODE work units are now generating an error code 255 and then failing. They fail after 1,500 seconds every time.

This only started today I think. At least they are not running for ever but they no longer work at all.

That would be very nice of you, thank you for considering it.

A lot of hours have gone into no a lot really, even by leaving them run to over 100 hours they just self abort and you get nothing for it.

Yes.
After analysis, we found that the SBG incident also negatively impacted the iThena PERF app.

The issues in iThena CNODE are also there but they are not necessarily very visible to the user.

Well they are visible to this user, I aborted a previous CNODE work unit as stated below after 10 1/2 hours, the replacement work unit is currently running over 9 hours and is at 100% but still running with no end in sight.

The PERF work units now take over 1 hour to run, on Windows or Linux.

I have not returned any valid CNODE work for a day now.

Conan

My CNODE work unit has now passed 12 hours run time and my PERF work unit on the same Linux machine has passed 3 hours. Both are at 100% and have been for quite a while now.
I have my doubts about them finishing.

The Windows PERF work units do finish with much shorter run times than Linux.

Should I abort these work units?

Conan

The PERF finished about 3 hours 15 minutes and then downloaded another one (all wu's that I have had since all run over 3 hours but do finish), this is on Linux.

The CNODE is not going to finish and I am aborting this one as well after nearly 16 1/2 hours run time.

I will see what the next does.

Conan

After more than 18 hours I will also abort another CNODE, have not returned a valid one in 2 days now.
The PERFS are still taking 3 hours but finish and get validated for just 2 credits.

Again I will see how the next one runs.

Conan
