Can the cry babies please get a life ?

Is this a 1st world problem ?

What i think is ironic is that YOU have finished 45 tasks on one of your Linux pc's and have exactly 0.00012589 total CREDITS FOR THAT PC!!!
While one of your Windows pc's has done 68 tasks and gotten 121.05464923 TOTAL CREDITS FOR THAT PC!!!

You are spending @2000 seconds of time on each workunit on the Linux pc and @188 seconds on each workunit on the Windows pc!!
Each Windows workunit gets 2 credits while each Linux pc gets 0.00000333 credits!!!
NO ONE does this for the credits but good grief YOU are paying the electric bill for that crap!!!

Its not a 1st world problem its about equality between Linux and Windows with respect to the points awarded.

Should be simple to fix.

I agree but the question is WHY are Linux crunchers still here, if the Admin NEEDS the Linux data and all Linux people leave then the Admin WILL make a change to get you back!!! As long Linux people accept the 2nd class status the status quo will remain as there is no reason to change!! The Admin posted over 60 days ago that there needs to be a change yet nothing has!!

I am in the process of setting all my Linux machines to no new tasks until things change!! WILL YOU?

I have twice as many tasks waiting to be validated than tasks that have been validated.

Validation pending (2379) · Validation inconclusive (0) · Valid (1156) · Invalid (0) · Error (0)

Mine are different:
All (5087) · In progress (10) · Validation pending (2756) · Validation inconclusive (0) · Valid (2319) Invalid (0) · Error (2)

Am I missing something here or is perhaps this project missing something?
If you look at the extract from my log file below you can hopefully see that this project could get through twice as many work units as it does. As it stands, when it gets a task, it is always immediately followed by a "Project requested delay of 303 seconds". The task itself only takes about 140 seconds from start to completion of the subsequent upload. The result is that it waits about 160 seconds before it reports it as complete and requests another Work Unit. This is despite having "report completed tasks immediately" set in my cc_config.xml file.
Is there a way of me overriding this sleep time to something more fitting for my computers? Or is it controlled by the Project?
If so, can the projects Admin reduce the delay number to something more in line with the time it takes to do the job?
Looking at the delays of the other projects that I currently do work for, the delay appears to be anything from 7 to 90 seconds with your 303 being exceptional. Clearly the smaller the number, the less idle time for your project on all of your crunchers machines. The flip side is that there would be more calls to your servers, so I accept it's a balance. In my case I would suggest that about 150 seconds would ensure fairly constant crunching which would literally allow me to do twice as much work for your project, and would hopefully not cause your servers to go into meltdown.
Perhaps there any other way round this?
Yours optimistically
Mark

There is a way just load up some virtual machines and do multiple workunits at the same time. It does mean you will also have to run another project in each virtual machine, that's a requirement for running these NCI workunits and the data hit could be huge if you are paying for your data to be transferred but you could setup one virtual machine for each cpu core you have, don't know about virtual cores, and run multiple units at the same time. It does take alot of ram to setup them up but it's doable for most people.
The number one user here is getting over 300K credits per day, that would be ALOT of physical machines as I'm getting around 2K credits per day with 18 pc's!!!

I've been using my iMac from 2010 to 2020. This is one of the reason I bought one : I knew it would last, unlike any PC. And it did.

So saying "stop everything Apple is changing to their own SoC" is quite... ridiculous. I'll take 2 years (they say) so the current product offer is "all converted to the new SoC", and many (many) years before Intel based Mac have disappeared from the surface of the earth.

NO the idea was not to put energy into something that is going to stop at some point anyway, they do not have a Mac app here my thought was if it takes alot of effort the return may not be worth it.

Mac applications are possible.
However, we need to have a place/system to compile such applications and have time to test them.
But a Mac application is possible.

I asked too soon...Apple is going to Arm chips of their own design and at least the mobile ones may not be able to crunch due to the power they would use.
Seems the numbers of Mac users is dwindling and some projects are already discussing not continuing support for them.

The current approach in the NCI project and tasks is indeed problematic.
The issue of current tasks and credit Windows/Linux is also problematic.
The iThena PERF application is currently only available on Windows.
I will add new applications only after the old tasks are finished (this is the plan).
Currently there are ~107053 tasks for iThena PERF in line. Maybe this process will take 24 hours?

I am aware of the problems.
But you can't do everything in one day.
Most of the problems (probably all?) can be solved but it takes time and a lot of work.

Check out the front page news section on WUProp project to understand the implications of Goofyxgrid and it's effect on WUProp as seen by the Admin of that project.

In a nutshell, if you run more Boinc Instances on your computer than the number of cores that machine has and you have a copy of WUProp in each Boinc Instance collecting data and hours, then it will be deemed a form of cheating (from a WUProp point of view) and those hours from those hosts will not be counted.
If you have as many or less Boinc Instances than the number of cores per machine then it should be no trouble.

It has to do with the fact as to what WUProp is actually trying to do, record memory usage, CPU types, Operating systems, etc for each project that runs and then collating that information so people can use it to see what projects are running, what is required to run them or if they can actually run it.

Big nutshell but that is the gist of it.

It is not a problem for me as I could not work out how to run more than one Bonic Instance on a single machine anyway.

Conan

So you are saying I can set up a virtual machine for 1 less than the total cpu's I have in a machine and crunch Ithena in each one of them and be just fine?

The same thing for WuProp?

I'm assuming that does NOT include the HT or SMT cpu cores on Intel or AMD.
